The fix is apparently to let it have free reign of your network and bypass the Mac's firewall which makes no sense to me.

The software is buggy and will 'run away' with 100% of CPU at random. One major issue with i1 Display if on a Mac. The newest V4 spec icc profiles have that enabled by default internally in the profile however even though the newer spec profiles have been around a while they are rarely seen. It is different from Black Point compensation which you should use BTW. Lumachrome is 280, Our Ultra Vibrant is 300. In i1 you can use a pulldown under the contrast ratio box that has an option to measure it from an icc profile. Is calibrating to a specific contrast ratio similar to enabling 'black point compensation' when proofing in PS? I'm prepping some files for some Lumachrome prints, where would I get the contrast ratio for those? I have the ICC profile, and calibrate with the i1 displayPro, but I can't find a way to get the contrast ratio from the ICC profile. I feel like I'm constantly learning something new about printing. You can also have a profile for multiple media contrast ratios which is especially useful for low contrast medias like smooth matte papers. The i1 displayPro can pull the contrast ratio of your media from most output profiles and make the display profile for that media. In that case it is very important to set the contrast ratio to the ratio of your desired media. If you are doing the display calibration I assume you have intention to be making accurate prints. Last week, after struggling with a particularly troublesome set of photos, I decided that maybe calibrating my monitors would help. It was a tiny bit more complicated than I remember from before, but still relatively easy considering all the new features, and did just as good of a job.ĭon't ask me why, but after building my new PC, I neglected to calibrate for nearly a month or two. Having downloaded the newest and most recent version, it's clear they're constantly updating it and adding new features. I just built a new computer, and so finally had to re-do things. I used Displa圜AL for the longest time and it 'just worked' so I never fiddled with it or updated it other than to re-calibrate and profile occasionally. Newer measuring devices use more robust tech but I've no idea if that includes the Spyder 4. At some point, after a number of years, they would fail spectacularly (ask me how I know). Some units, old i1s (Eye Ones) for example, used dye based elements that did not age well. The primary concern is the technology used by the older Spyder to measure color. Mostly i use monitors that come with it's one software (like the BenQ) but when using a laptop your suggestion will be helpful. I think i used it in the past but i will give it another try.

I have both a Dell U3216Q that only likes the i1 (not the Spyder) for its hardware calibration, and a BenQ SW271 that likes both. Now, the issue to check is which calibration tool your monitor accepts. I have both the Spyder5Pro and the i1Display Pro.

I was thinking its probably pushing 8-10 years old? Technology, video cards, etc., have all changed so much since then it might be wise to get something new? I still have the Spyder 4 pro somewhere at home. Currently still using the Spyder5Pro but I would imagine the current one is just as good.if not better. I've used Datacolor Spyder's since 2004 with zero issues. Get the latest X-Rite i1 Pro Display calibrator. I have used a Datacolor Spyder in the past and see they have a new one out. What's ever using for Monitor Calibration these days?
